Powergrid, one of the largest Transmission Utility in the world, owns and operates about 56,300 Ckt kms of transmission lines at 765 KV, 400 KV, 220 KV & 132 KV, +500 KV HVDC levels and 95 sub-stations with transformation capacity of about 55,000 MVA. Availability of its transmission system has been ensured consistently over 99.5% on annual basis by deployingbest Operation and Maintenance practices at par with the International utilities. About 40% of total power generated in the country is being transmitted over Powergrid owned transmission network. Powergrid has been making concerned effort in taking up various other synergetic business ventures such as National & International level Consultancy assignments in transmission, distribution andtelecom sectors. Powergrid is in the process of establishing nation wide backbone network to provide broad band capacity to various telecom service providers like ISP's, Cellular operators, Basic service providers, NLDO's, ILD's, Paging oprators, Call centres, tele-medicine, Government Departments, Broadcasters, Corporate etc for voice, data and video and also other higher value added telecom services.
